In her short but already momentous career, the 22-year-old poet Amanda Gorman has accomplished a stunning series of firsts. At 19, she became the country’s first Youth Poet Laureate. Last month, when she recited her poem, “The Hill We Climb,” at President Biden’s inauguration, she became the youngest inaugural poet in American history. And on Sunday, she became the first poet ever to perform for the Super Bowl. Before the game, Gorman delivered an original poem titled “Chorus of the Captains” in a taped segment. Gorman wrote the poem to celebrate three people who were chosen as honorary captains to take part in the coin toss: Trimaine Davis, a Los Angeles teacher who helped his students get laptops for remote schooling; Suzie Dorner, a nurse in a Tampa who works with Covid-19 patients in an intensive care unit, and James Martin, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran from Pittsburgh who has worked to support veterans, high school athletes and young people in his community. In a performance before the coin toss, Gorman paid homage to the honorary captains:Today we honor our three captainsFor their actions and impact inA time of uncertainty and need. They’ve taken the lead,Exceeding all expectations and limitations,Uplifting their communities and neighborsAs leaders, healers, and educatorsEver since she stole the show with a charismatic performance at the inauguration last month, Gorman has seen interest in her work soar. Her publisher announced that it will print three million copies of her upcoming titles, which include her debut poetry collection and a picture book. Barack Obama, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Oprah Winfrey praised her on social media. IMG Models signed Gorman and will represent her for fashion and beauty endorsements.Appearing at the Super Bowl will likely bring an even larger audience to her work. The N.F.L. contacted Gorman in November, when the league was trying to create a ceremony that would reflect the challenges the country is facing. It decided to open the game by celebrating people who have helped their communities through the pandemic.

Today we examine the two-car entry of Roush Fenway Racing in the 63rd running of the Great American Race on Feb. 14, 2021.Jack Roush Racing was a NASCAR single-car team from inception in 1998 until 1991, with Mark Martin behind the wheel. Little did they know back then that one day they would both be inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Martin in 2017 and Roush two years later.Read more: Daytona 500 Team Preview: Richard Childress RacingRoush founded his team in 1998 and rebranded as Roush Fenway Racing when Boston Red Sox owner John Henry purchased 50 percent of it in 2007. That year Roush Fenway Racing fielded five full-time teams with David Ragan (No. 6 Ford), Greg Biffle (16), Matt Kenseth (17), Jamie McMurray (26), and Carl Edwards (99). Those four Roush Fenway Racing cars found the winner’s circle seven times.’The Cat in the Hat’ leads Roush Fenway Racing fortunesRoush Fenway Racing has amassed 325 victories across all three NASCAR national touring series’ — 137 in the NASCAR Cup Series, five NASCAR national series owner championships, and three driver titles. Since Henry partnered with Roush, the Roush Fenway Racing has been whittled down to its current two-car operation, with Chris Buescher and veteran Ryan Newman leading the way.Read more: Daytona 500 Team Preview: 23XI RacingThis year, Roush Fenway Racing will be seeking its third Daytona 500 crown, the first two coming from Matt Kenseth in 2009 and 2012. Ryan Newman won the Great American Race in 2008, but he was with Team Penske when he did it. Newman may be in the twilight of his career, but don’t count him out. He knows his way around the 2.5-mile tri-oval with a dozen top-10 finishes. Here are the thoughts of the Roush Fenway Racing drivers, shared during a virtual press conference via Ford Performance Media.
Ryan Newman — No. 6 Kohler Generators Roush Fenway Racing Ford MustangOn coming back for the Daytona 500 after being so close a year ago for Roush Fenway Racing:“That was the hope even back in September of whatever it was when we raced there was to be able to have that dramatic chapter come to an end with a victory and a playoff berth. It would be even more special to come back a year later and really, in all reality, just to have an opportunity to come as close as we did last year would be amazing as well. I’ve been around this sport long enough to know that there are drivers that have never got a top 10, let alone a top five, or in my case a top 10 on the roof, let alone have a shot at the Daytona 500 the way I did last year. So just being in the hunt again will be an amazing feeling hopefully, and all the things that go along with it – Kohler Generators will be there. It’s their first race on a Cup car and an amazing story if we can put all those things together.”Also Read: Daytona 500 winners: Records, upsets, memorable moments On if the fire still burns deeper since the Daytona 500 win in 2008:“I never look at it that way, and I say that because – and I’m gonna give you just a little piece of private information, but I’m pretty sure it’s unanimous across the board – there’s not a driver out there that doesn’t have that burn or doesn’t have that desire. And I say that because as much of a team sport as this is, even when your teammate wins you’re still more disappointed and/or jealous that you didn’t win. You can be happy that your teammate won, but it still makes it that much more of a burn, I guess you could say, internally and externally because you haven’t, and that makes you want to fight that much harder. If you have the passion for this sport and the desire that it takes to be a winner, that will always be inside of you. My point is that no matter the situation or who wins or how close you were, that’s always going to exist. I don’t know that it exists more, and I can’t say that I feel like it more since 2008. I feel, to me, it’s the same no matter what.”Chris Buescher — No. 17 Fastenal Roush Fenway Racing Ford Mustang
On being in position last year (a third-place finish) to win the Daytona 500 for Roush Fenway Racing, and if he thinks about it going into this year:“I really haven’t gone back and replayed that one much. I think ultimately you go into every speedway race with the same mentality and that’s to be there at the end when it matters and put yourself in position. We were both able to do that last year in the 500 and a couple of the other speedway races, so we’ll keep that same mindset. You go back and you don’t worry too much about the past, try and learn from it and see if we can improve it just a little bit. I wouldn’t say there’s anything that is changing this year based off of last year. We’re working hard to get our speedway cars a little bit better yet. Jimmy Fennig and Roush Fenway Racing has had terrific speed on the speedways for a number of years now, so we know we’re gonna have a good opportunity with our Fastenal Mustang to be there. It’s just a matter of staying clean through most of it, trying to avoid the melees that are sure to happen, that always do, and again, just be in position at the end. That’s all you can ask and hope that it plays out just a little bit better for us this time around.”

Like Fanduel, Draft Kings will be running the same style of NFL lineup that consists of five flex options and the MVP for tonight’s Super Bowl. With there only being two NFL teams in the Super Bowl it only makes sense to shorten the lineups for contestants. This brings a big problem when it comes to gathering the top players when their salaries go up.With the players salaries rising it can be hard for Draft Kings NFL lineup owners to select the right players. Lets take a look at the five flex options to draft in the Super Bowl contest on Draft Kings. Lets also select the Super Bowl LV MVP.Super Bowl LV: Five NFL Flex players to draft for Draft KingsFlex Option 1: Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs Divisional Round – Cleveland Browns v Kansas City ChiefsDraft: Patrick Mahomes, vs Tampa Bay BuccaneersDraft Kings Salary: $12,000Why Draft Kings lineup owners should draft Patrick Mahomes: Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill had a field day against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers secondary in their first meeting. Mahomes is coming off a 325 passing yard performance agianst the Bills. He also tossed three touchdowns against Buffalo giving him 28.5 fantasy points.
Flex Option 2: Tyreek Hill, Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl LIV – San Francisco 49ers v Kansas City ChiefsDraft: Tyreek Hill, vs Tampa Bay BuccaneersDraft Kings Salary: $10,500Why Draft Kings lineup owners should draft Tyreek Hill: Tyreek Hill has been on a hot streak in the 2021 NFL playoffs. He has had back-to-back games where he posted 20+ fantasy points. Those 20+ fantasy point games came without scoring a touchdown. We all remember the 269 receiving yards and three touchdowns Hill put up against the Buccaneers.Flex Option 3: Leonard Fournette, Tampa Bay Buccaneers New Orleans Saints v Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Draft: Leonard Fournette, vs Kansas City ChiefsDraft Kings Salary: $7,800Why Draft Kings lineup owners should draft Leonard Fournette: In all three of the Buccaneers playoff games Leonard Fournette has found the endzone. He has scored over 20+ fantasy points in two out of the three playoff games. Fournette has became the number one running back since Ronald Jones II has been injured.Flex Option 4: Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFC Championship – Tampa Bay Buccaneers v Green Bay PackersDraft: Mike Evans, vs Kansas City ChiefsDraft Kings Salary: $8,400Why Draft Kings lineup owners should draft Mike Evans: Mike Evans has had a great 2021 NFL playoffs. He is a matchup nightmare when it comes to size for majority of the corners in the NFL. The Chiefs do not have a big physical cornerback that can matchup with Mike Evans. Brady will look his way more in the redzone during the Super Bowl.Flex Option 5: Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs AFC Championship – Buffalo Bills v Kansas City Chiefs
Draft: Travis Kelce, vs Tampa Bay BuccaneersDraft Kings Salary: $11,000Why Draft King lineup owners should draft Travis Kelce: If there has been one Kansas City Chiefs player that has stood out, it is Travis Kelce. Kelce has scored 25+ fantasy points in both games against the Bills and Browns. Travis Kelce had a huge AFC Championship game. He racked up 39.8 fantasy points against the Buffalo Bills.Super Bowl LV MVP: Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs Denver Broncos v Kansas City ChiefsTravis Kelce is easily the best tight end in the NFL today. He has had an amazing run in the 2021 NFL playoffs. In the Super Bowl, a lot of the attention will be on Tyreek Hill and Patrick Mahomes.Kelce will have the opportunity to have a huge NFL Super Bowl game for the Chiefs. We can expect a similar output like Travis Kelce had against the Buffalo Bills. If Kelce can get started early he will walk away with the 2021 NFL Super Bowl MVP award.

The Detroit Pistons are sending Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks, a deal that will reunite the 32-year-old with his former team and coach.
NBA rumors started leaking on Saturday night that Rose and the Pistons were prepared to part ways. The 2011 NBA MVP and three-time All-Star guard last played for Detroit on Jan. 30. Since then, he has been held out of action as the organization explored its trade market options. While multiple teams inquired, the Knicks have got it done.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Knicks and Pistons have agreed on a deal. Detroit will receive Dennis Smith Jr. and a second-round pick in exchange for Rose’s expiring contract.
It will be a reunion for Rose and Thibodeau. The pair worked together with the Chicago Bulls from 2010-15. Across their five seasons together, the Bulls reached the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals and enjoyed five consecutive playoff appearances. Rose made the All-Star team in three straight seasons and earned NBA MVP in a phenomenal 2011 campaign that saw him average 25 points, 7.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game.
He was a hot candidate at the NBA trade deadline last season, generating significant interest from the Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers. Ultimately, Detroit opted to keep him for the remainder of the year. After averaging 18.1 points and 5.6 assists per contest in 2020, he has taken a step back in his age-32 season.
Rose has played in 15 games this season, coming off the bench in every appearance. Before being held out by the Pistons, he was averaging 14.2 points, 4.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game. While his stats appear decent, given he averaged 23 minutes per contest, he shot only 42.9% from the field and averaged nearly two turnovers each night. He is under contract for $7.68 million and will become a free agent in the offseason.
The arrival of Rose isn’t great news for Immanuel Quickley. After falling to the No. 25 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Kentucky guard has been one of the best rookies in the NBA this season. Despite seeing limited minutes, he averages 12.4 points and 2.7 assists per contest, with his on-court time often fluctuating from 13 minutes to 30 depending on the day.
The Pistons certainly satisfied getting a return for Rose, but they clearly lost value by holding on to him last season. With that said, a fresh start could help Smith Jr. turn things around. Once the No. 9 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Smith Jr. volunteered for the G-League to get more minutes.
With Killian Hayes out indefinitely and Rose is gone, there will be minutes for the taking in the Pistons’ rotation. It’s unlikely we see the version of Smith Jr. who averaged 15.2 points and 5.2 assists as a rookie with the Dallas Mavericks, but he is more valuable long-term to Detroit than Rose.

The FA has called on the government and social media companies to act quickly in the fight against online racist abuse after Manchester United’s Axel Tuanzebe and Lauren James became the latest players to be targeted. In a strong 127-word statement, the governing body offered its support to the United players after another weekend overshadowed by footballers suffering racist abuse.Tuanzebe was again the subject of racism, having also been on the receiving end last month.
Manchester United Women forward James, the sister of Chelsea defender Reece, who was also subjected to racist abuse in recent weeks, was sent a comment which contained the monkey emoji on Instagram on Sunday. An FA statement read: “It has been yet another weekend where players are facing discriminatory abuse and having to deal with anonymous keyboard warriors who hide in a world of impunity. At The FA, we believe that enough is enough.”We will continue to do everything we can to stamp discrimination out of the game, but we implore government to act quickly and bring in the appropriate legislation so this abuse has real-life consequences.
Kick It Out’s Troy Townsend says football players are tired of ‘conversations’ being held over social media abuse and urged firms to take tougher action.
“Social media companies need to step up and take accountability and action to ban abusers from their platforms, gather evidence that can lead to prosecution and support making their platforms free from this type of abhorrent abuse.”We stand with Lauren James, Axel Tuanzebe and every victim of discrimination in all its forms. It’s time for change.”Sky Sports News has contacted Twitter and Facebook for comment. In response to the abuse received by Tuanzebe, a spokesperson for Facebook – which owns Instagram – told Sky Sports News earlier on Sunday: “There is no place for hate speech on Instagram and we have taken action to remove accounts and comments following the abuse received by Axel Tuanzebe this weekend.”We are always working on new ways to tackle racism on Instagram and will have more to share soon.”James posted on her social media account that she was “bored” of the treatment she was receiving online and urged Instagram to do more.

“Instagram on a real need to do something about it, or they will lose so many individuals on their platform – because that’s the only way they will actually listen,” said United forward James.”Could even just remove any emojis with racist meanings. Too easy for some kid to press a few emojis in order to try and grab some attention. Too much talk around these days, and nothing ever gets done. Usual story.”Bristol Rovers defender Mark Little was also sent monkey emojis on Instagram, and he brought the abuse to light in a post on Twitter, with the caption: “Happy Sunday”.In a club statement, Rovers said: “There is no place in sport or society for racism. After three straight missed cuts, Brooks Koepka bounced back with a brilliant come-from-behind win as he clinched a one-shot victory at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in Arizona.

Brooks Koepka won his eighth PGA Tour title with victory at the Waste Management Phoenix Open
Brooks Koepka upstaged Jordan Spieth and Xander Schauffele as he produced a spectacular finish to win the Waste Management Phoenix Open for the second time.
Koepka arrived at TPC Scottsdale on the back of three consecutive missed cuts after battling a knee injury for most of 2020, but he stormed back into the winner’s circle with a brilliant, closing 65 – his first victory since the WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational in July, 2019.Spieth and Schauffele were tied for the lead overnight and three clear of the chasing pack, but both struggled from the outset and actually found themselves three behind as early as the eighth hole after James Hahn surged to six under for the day at the 10th. Koepka shot a closing round of 65 at TPC Scottsdale But Hahn buckled under the pressure of leading and his game suddenly deteriorated, dropping his first shot in 50 holes at the 11th, driving into water at the 13th and finding the drink again with his poorly-struck second to the long 15th as he plummeted back down the leaderboard.Playing partner Koepka, however, moved rapidly in the opposite direction to Hahn after being just one under for the day after 12 holes and seemingly too far back to contend despite the troubles of Spieth and Schauffele in the final group.Koepka was suddenly tied for the lead after birdies at 13, 14 and 15, and he then enjoyed a moment of magic at the risk-reward 17th as his safe tee shot pulled up short of the green, but it mattered little as he pitched in for an outstanding eagle-two that lifted him into the outright lead. Save over 25% with NOW TV Grab a NOW TV Sky Sports Month Pass for just £25 p/m for 4 months (usually £33.99 p/m) A cast-iron par at the last set the clubhouse target at 19 under, and Schauffele got to within one when he knocked a wedge to seven feet at the intimidating 16th and converted the chance for only his third birdie of a difficult day.But he and Spieth then pulled their drives into the water at the penultimate hole, and Schauffele’s bogey left him needing to hole his second shot at the last to force a playoff with Koepka. That proved beyond the world No 4 as Koepka celebrated his eight PGA Tour victory at the scene of his first, having pipped Bubba Watson and Hideki Matsuyama to the title back in 2015. PGA Tour Golf February 8, 2021, 7:00pm Live on Kyoung-Hoon Lee vaulted into second place after a solid four-birdie 68 which got him to 18 under and one behind Koepka along with a deflated Schauffele, who valiantly birdied the last to salvage a level-par 71. Spieth, who lit up the tournament with his sensational 61 on Saturday, matched Schauffele’s birdie at the 18th as he carded a 72 to finish tied for fourth with Carlos Ortiz (64) and veteran Steve Stricker. The US Ryder Cup captain would have been delighted to have a front-row seat watching Koepka go about his business on Sunday, although the 53-year-old was not far behind his playing partner as he birdied four of the last six holes for a 67 and a highly commendable 17 under for the week.

WASHINGTON – Donovan Mitchell scored 27 points, passed off 11 assists and grabbed nine rebounds to spark the NBA-best Utah Jazz to their fourth straight victory on Sunday, beating Indiana 103-95.
Mitchell matched a career high in assists but just missed a triple double as Utah won for the 15th time in 16 games while the Pacers lost for the fifth time in six starts.
“My mind wasn’t really on that at the end of the day,” Mitchell said of a triple double. “I’m just trying to go out there and find ways to impact the game.”
The Jazz, who improved to 19-5 with the road triumph, also had 18 points from Croatian forward Bojan Bogdanovic, 16 points and 16 rebounds from French center Rudy Gobert and 17 points off the bench by guard Jordan Clarkson.
“There were times we were tired, there were times we had to dig deep but we did it collectively and I think that’s the biggest thing,” Mitchell said.
Indiana fell to 12-12 with a third consecutive loss despite 20 points by Lithuanian forward Domantas Sabonis, who fouled out in the fourth quarter after hitting only 7-of-19 from the floor thanks to Gobert’s good defense.
“My goal is to make sure they don’t score,” Gobert said. “It’s on me to make sure they take the toughest shot possible and if they make it, they make it.”
De’Aaron Fox scored 36 points on 15-of-25 shooting to spark the Sacramento Kings to their fourth consecutive triumph, a 113-110 road victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Lou Williams and Nicolas Batum missed tying 3-point attempts in the dying seconds and Kings guard Buddy Hield added the last of his 22 points on two free throws with 8.3 seconds remaining to seal the win by Sacramento (12-11).
Williams had 23 points off the bench to lead the Clippers (17-8) while Kawhi Leonard had 20 and 10 rebounds.
Miami center Bam Adebayo scored 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead six double-digit scorers for the Heat in a 109-103 triumph at New York.
Jimmy Butler added 17 points for Miami (9-14) despite 3-of-11 shooting, going 11-of-12 at the free throw line.

Julius Randle had game highs of 26 points and 13 rebounds in a losing cause for the Knicks (11-14).
Multiple media reports Sunday said the Detroit Pistons traded veteran guard Derrick Rose — second in scoring among NBA reserves — to the Knicks, where he will reunite with coach Tom Thibodeau after the two were paired previously in Chicago and Minnesota.
The Pistons would land guard Dennis Smith Jr and a second-round pick in this year’s NBA Draft in return for Rose, who is averaging 14.2 points, 4.2 assists and 1.9 rebounds a game.
Suns win as fans cheer
Phoenix swingman Mikal Bridges led a balanced attack with 19 points and nine rebounds to power the host Suns over Boston 100-91 for a fifth win in six games.
Devin Booker added 18 points and 11 assists while Bahamas center DeAndre Ayton netted 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Suns (13-9).

Jayson Tatum scored 23 points on 8-of-22 shooting to lead the Celtics (12-10).
The Suns welcomed spectators to their game for the first time this season as 1,500 healthcare workers were invited to attend under health and safety guidelines that included social distancing and face masks.
“That’s the one thing that everybody has missed is the fans in the building,” Suns coach Monty Williams said. “It’s just not the same.”
Charlotte’s Terry Rozier poured in 26 points, hitting five from 3-point range, and Gordon Hayward contributed 25 as the Hornets beat visiting Washington 119-97 — the team’s largest victory margin since 2017.
LaMelo Ball added 19 for Charlotte, seventh in the Eastern Conference at 11-13.
NBA scoring leader Bradley Beal had 31 points for the Wizards (5-15).

Lewis Hamilton has, time and again, proved that he is one of the greatest drivers in the history of Formula 1. However, racing isn’t all the Briton is good at. While speaking at the School of Art Institute, Chicago, Kanye West pointed out champions’ another skill; he complimented the Mercedes driver on his musical skills. Hamilton was over at West’s house for an Easter brunch, along with the rest of the latter’s friends and family. The pair started jamming to some music in the Grammy winner’s studio, and according to him, the seven-time world champion took everyone aback with his musical talents. “He’s [Lewis Hamilton] playing music and everybody’s like, what is this music?” Kanye recalled everyone asking. “It’s Lewis Hamilton’s music,” replied the musician, and he pointed out everyone’s surprise at Hamilton’s skills. “It’s good, it’s really really good,” Kanye concluded. Toto Wolff had clarified that they are looking to sign a new deal before the end of the year; however, it’s been over five weeks now and we are yet to see a final announcement on the contract. In the latest update, Craig Slater explained the current position of both Hamilton and Mercedes with regards to the new deal. “All is quiet still on the Sir Lewis Hamilton contract front but I can report that all is calm at Mercedes regarding that new contract.” “They understand that while there isn’t confirmation, the longer this drags on, the more speculation there will be. They say they are going to live with that,” he said. While the most probable outcome is that the contract will be signed soon, Hamilton sure does have the option of moving on to the music industry if the negotiations do not come through! And given that other drivers like Charles Leclerc have expressed their interest in music, who knows, maybe he can create an F1 band as well! | February 7, 2021, 3:57 PMFebruary 7, 2021, 3:57 PMThe Detroit Pistons have agreed to trade guard Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks for Dennis Smith Jr. and a 2021 second-round pick, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The second-round pick that the Pistons are acquiring is via the Charlotte Hornets.
The deal, which comes following talks that reportedly stretched over a couple of months, reunites Rose with Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau, who had the former MVP on his roster in both Chicago and Minnesota.
This is also the second stint Rose will have played with New York — he was a part of the 2016-17 team that played under coach Jeff Hornacek during the Phil Jackson regime.
New York has played above expectations this season, but while their defence (sixth in the league) has been impressive, their offence (24th in the league) has been less so. Evidently, the Knicks hope that adding Rose into the mix will help them improve in that area.
It would also appear that New York will be looking to offload at least one of its guards at the trade deadline, as the addition of Rose sees him tacked on alongside the likes of Austin Rivers, Elfrid Payton, Frank Ntilikina and Immanuel Quickley.
As for the rebuilding Pistons, the 23-year-old Smith enters as a project, but even if he doesn’t work out, Detroit can simply let him go in free agency this summer, as he — like Rose — is on an expiring deal. If he impresses and they aim to keep him, they can tender him a qualifying offer and he will become a restricted free agent.
