Twitter reacts to Rishabh ‘Spiderman’ Pant’s brilliant stumping to send back Lawrence

After humming to the tune of Desi Spiderman, Rishabh Pant was at his vigilant duty in Spiderman’s costume, with a brilliant stumping, right after his advice to Ravichandran Ashwin. Being blinded by Dan Lawrence’s brain-faded charge, the wicketkeeper unsighted completed a brilliant stumping.Since the first Test, against England, Rishabh Pant has been brilliant behind the sticks, with his impressive athleticism. In the first innings of the second Test, the wicketkeeper plucked two of the best catches in the Test, both times diving to his left. That even led to Ravichandran Ashwin praising the left-hander for his brilliance behind the stumps. While he was dismissed and undone by the brilliance of Ben Foakes, behind the sticks, it had inspired the wicketkeeper batsman. On the third day, it was the spinners, who ran riot picking up wickets, there was one opportunity where he fumbled a catch off Ashwin’s bowling. However, on day four, none of it mattered, as the wicketkeeper was called to duty early in the morning. Just before Ashwin’s spell to Dan Lawrence, the wicketkeeper charged his way to the bowler, seemingly talking about a plan to dismiss the English batsman. In the span of two deliveries, the off-spinner bowled an excellent delivery that drifted and stayed straight, going in between the English batsman’s legs, to leave Pant in a spot of dire. Despite being blinded, the wicketkeeper’s exquisite footwork ensured that the right-handed batsman walked back to the dressing room. Not the best wicketkeeper in the country? A difference of opinion now? Here is how Twitter reacted:

Reports | Shami, Saini set to join team for 3rd Test, Pant and Suryakumar likely for T20Is

As per reports, Mohammed Shami and Navdeep Saini are likely to join the team for the last two Tests while Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant are also likely to make it to the T20I squad. After the second Test, the selectors will announce the squads for the last two Tests and five T20Is.

Injured pacers Shami and Saini have regained their full fitness and after the team management asked them not to feature for their respective state sides in the Vijay Hazare, it’s likely they will be part of the last two Tests for India. Shami had fractured his right arm during the first Test while Saini injured his groin in the last Test at the Gabba. Shami had started bowling 10 days back while Saini is also bowling at full ’tilt’ at the NCA. “Saini is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He has bowling at full tilt. The Delhi selectors wanted to have his services for the Vijay Hazare Trophy but Saini was asked to stay back at NCA as he is likely to join the team in Ahmedabad,” a BCCI source told TOI.Also. the selectors are looking to form a pool of T20 specialists with players like Ishan Kishan, Nitish Rana and Sidharth Kaul set to be part of it.“One must realise there has been no India ‘A’ tours in the last year and it is difficult to hold one in the near future. This is essentially the ‘A’ team,” the source said.Players like Nitish Rana, are likely to be on stand-by, as they can be called into the national side at any time. “This is the reason they were asked to report to NCA for fitness tests. These players have been informed that they will be in standbys for the India T20I team. This is the reason why Rana wasn’t made the captain of the Delhi team for the Vijay Hazare tournament. These players could be called into Indian team anytime. They will be essentially appearing for trials,” the source added. It has also been reported that Rishabh Pant, who was not part of the limited-overs squads in Australia, is likely to be rewarded for his consecutive fifties in the last four Tests with a call-up in the T20I squad and will be part of the white-ball plans. Suryakumar Yadav, who has been performing brilliantly for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, is also likely to be tried for the five-match T20I series. The squads for the last two Tests and the five-match T20I series will be announced after the culmination of the ongoing Chennai Test. Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

IND vs ENG | Pant’s batting confidence rubbing into his keeping as well, feels Deep Dasgupta

Former Indian wicketkeeper batsman Deep Dasgupta feels that wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant’s batting confidence has started to rub on his keeping as well. He also praised his movement in the second innings of the first Test behind the stumps and also the two catches he took yesterday. Rishabh Pant’s wicketkeeping has been pretty decent in the last three Tests. He was sloppy when he returned back to the Test side at MCG and the SCG where he had dropped simple catches. But ever since he got 97 on the final day of the SCG Test, his keeping has also improved as witnessed at the Gabba. Barring few misses here and there in the first innings of the first Test, he was really good in the game and has been absolutely brilliant in the ongoing second Test on a square turner. Former Indian gloveman Deep Dasgupta feels on the same lines as he reckoned that his batting confidence has rubbed on his wicketkeeping as well. “I think the way he is batting, that confidence is rubbing onto his keeping as well. Because it is, and we have all heard this before, and we have said it as well, that it is a confidence game. So, once you start feeling confident about yourself, about your skills obviously you look like a different player, ” Deep Dasgupta told Sports Today, reported HT. He also applauded the way Pant kept wickets in the second innings of the first Test, where he felt he was balanced and relaxed. “If you look at someone like Rishabh, even in the last Test match as well, he kept really well in the second innings, the way he was moving around he looked relaxed and did not look worried, so he is not making those unnecessary movements, and because of that he has more balance in his approach and his stance”.On day two of the ongoing second Test, the 23-year-old took two brilliant catches, both time diving to his left and grabbing the ball exceptionally well. DDG termed both the catches phenomenal “Those two catches were absolutely phenomenal, and not just that, those catches were, of course, brilliant, but generally also the way he kept for those deliveries that were down the legside from Kuldeep, he was really good at that. So, all in all, he is looking really good,” he added.Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

IND vs ENG | Chepauk Day 2 Talking Points: Ashwin’s Chepauk connection and Pant’s maturity

Well push the day three pitch to day two and that’s what you got on offer, Chepauk’s surface was turning square, triangles and even trapezium. On the day, there was Pant with his maturity, Ashwin with his posterity and Ben Foakes, who had triumphed others with his intensity in comparison to others.Rishabh Pant continues to mature and improviseCarefree, reckless and irresponsible – three words that started to define Rishabh Pant during his early days in Indian cricket. But since he made his Test debut, those words have been history and he has written several new pages in that book. The way he has matured since then has turned all eyes of criticism into appreciation, with rumours of adjectives running out of dictionaries. When he walked in during the wee hours on the first day, he played percentage shots, only attacking the ones which came his way. And the others, he defended, something he hadn’t quite been able to adapt in the other formats. Since his debut, Pant has an average of 45.92, just behind the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja. While the left-hander isn’t quite a century-scorer, his valuable contribution has quite made him the fan favourite, which was visible at the Chepauk. When he walked out to bat, he received the biggest applause and when he walked back, the magnitude of the applause became thunderous. What was more clever was his choice of shot, playing the percentage shots while still looking for doubles, to not leave his partner at the other end exposed. Even when wickets fell around him, he patted the backs of the bowlers, giving them a bit of confidence. Unfazed about the situation, Pant continued to explode and mature. Now, time for him to do the same with the gloves.Chepauk crowd continues to marvel at Ravichandran AshwinSometimes people wonder if they could get to witness wizardry in its pure form, searching all the places for attaining wisdom. While English fans found it via James Anderson and his blissful swing, South Africa attained that wisdom with Dale Steyn. Miles away from the two Western countries, there is India and the Chepauk which continues to marvel every time they look at Ravichandran Ashwin, at his pure best. His brain is well one of the best in the game, with his memory serving him right, including that time when he took a review, for a delivery that spun similar to the way he did in 2016/17, in Mohali where he accounted for Stokes. Ashwin knows the ground, at the back of his hand, he knows every dust that would turn sharply, every dust that would bounce and the other that would keep low. When you have so much information well versed, you just have to go out and implement. That’s what Ashwin does every time he steps on to the ground, sticks by his basics and puts on his wizardry mask. His wand-like spells create chaos, even when you are batting with a monk at the crease. Even if you had ice-packs all over your body, you would feel the heat. That’s Ashwin, that’s Chepauk and that’s indeed the magical connection between the two. It isn’t just love at first sight, it is a marriage of the highest order – one bound by skills, memory and love. And it was only fitting that he walked away with the match-ball, picking up five wickets. Ben Foakes brilliant, both behind the gloves and with the batWhen the English top-order struggled, the pressure was always going to be on the middle-order to resurrect the batting innings. However, the pitch wasn’t a tad bit English or hell, not even what it was in the first Test – it was turning all corners. When the ball turns haywire, shot selection becomes crucial. That’s when Ben Foakes was put under the pump, after having weathered all storms – of turn and bounce behind the stumps. And Foakes came in, he had to listen to all kinds of chirps, from Rishabh Pant to Virat Kohli, everyone was interested in his whereabouts. Not just that, they were even handing him warnings, dishing out flighted deliveries, asking him to go against his own patience levels. None succeeded, the English keeper looked certain, far more than the others in the line-up, with his display against Indian spinners, who were at their peak. Ashwin was flighting and turning, the ball seemed to turn every corner and at the other, there was Axar Patel who was ripping it flat. But none dazed or troubled Foakes, who looked to get to the pitch marks and knock the delivery. His drive against Ashwin, which went straight, was arguably one of the best shots of the English innings. Not just comfortable, Foakes looked seasoned and with a tone of having played in these conditions, day in and day out.Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

IND vs ENG | Pant has been working incredibly hard on his keeping, insists Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin, who had an incredible day-out in Chennai, insisted that Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is working really hard on his glove work. There was criticism for India for using Kuldeep Yadav late but Ashwin stated that it is ought to happen given he’s the third spinner.Indian gloveman Rishabh Pant continued to impress with his batting as he made fifty in the fourth consecutive Test. He remained unbeaten at the end of India’s first innings on 58* and helped the hosts reach 329 hitting some clean sixes of the English spinners. But remarkably enough, it was his wicketkeeing today that stole the thunder as he took an exceptional diving catch to his left off Mohammed Siraj’s bowling that left everyone in awe of his abilities. In the first Test, he had kept well but did make errors, not quite so today, even though it was a turner and the kind of pitch where his keeping remains under scrutiny the most. Pant had missed a simple stumping chance on the bowling of R Ashwin in the first Test after which the offie was seen telling him how to use his hands better whilst keeping. But after his good day out in the park, when Ashwin was asked about Pant’s keeping, he revealed that the 23-year-old is working really hard on his glovework and also outlined that it’s wrong to constantly compare him with others. “In terms of Rishabh Pant’s keeping, the name of the game is confidence. He has been batting well, he has been working incredibly hard on his keeping. Sometimes, when you are constantly compared with someone, it can be really hard. I really do feel for Rishabh, especially when he is playing the white-ball format, he was constantly compared with the great MS Dhoni. Now too, he is being compared with Saha and so on, sometimes it is better to give him a break. He definitely has the ability and will go on from strength to strength, which I have no doubts on,” Ashwin said in the virtual presser. Axar Patel, who is making his Test debut in the ongoing game was really good as well as he took the crucial wicket of Joe Root when the English skipper mistimed his favorite sweep shot to hand over Patel a memorable maiden scalp. The left-arm spinner also got rid of Moeen Ali later and finished with figures of 2/40. Ashwin also reckoned that taking Root’s wicket, who had made a double-hundred last test, was crucial for the team.“Axar Patel is one of those players who has playing first-class cricket for a while now. He has had his share of good performances. Like I mentioned before about Washi, we see them in the limited-overs format and build our own perception. So with respect to that, getting Joe Root in his first Test must be a really good thing for him, very important wicket in terms of the game. And Moeen Ali too, it was crucial for us to get that wicket.”On a wicket which was turning square, Kuldeep Yadav was introduced late in the attack and bowled merely six overs while both Axar and Ashwin bowled 20 and 23.5 overs respectively. Reacting on the criticism that India received on bowling him late, the offie, who take a fifer today, asserted that he’s the third spinner and in a five-man attack, it takes time to get to bowl. “Look sometimes, we just play the game and we don’t see how you guys are seeing the game. Anyone who has played the game will understand that there are five bowlers and he’s the third spinner. It will take time before he gets his turn. This is how the game goes, this is pretty much how it happens. I think it is more about the perception of what people want to see. I thought he bowled really well and I think you will see an increasing role for him.”Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

Twitter reacts to Rishabh’s ‘Pantilicious’ catch to send back Ollie Pope

When Rishabh Pant is in the game, there isn’t one moment where you don’t get entertained – with the bat or with the gloves. After the first Test, where his wicket keeping was under the pump, Pant donned a different glove and a different avatar, plucking the ball out of nowhere to send back Pope.
If it was any other year, Wriddhiman Saha would have walked in as India’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman, but this is 2021, and Rishabh Pant was given the nod ahead of Saha for the home series against England. While his batting was at its best in the first Test, where he swatted the English bowlers, his wicket keeping was slightly off the beat, with several byes and misses behind the sticks, even leading to an agitated Ravichandran Ashwin. However, in the second Test, he has turned his fortune around, in sublime manners. First, his wicket keeping against the spinners was on point, similar to Ben Foakes from the first innings before he stepped up the notch. Mohammed Siraj’s first ball at home, against Ollie Pope, was a nothing of a delivery, which was flicked well by the English batsman. However, to his dismay, there was Rishabh Pant behind the sticks. He flew and flew sharply to pluck the ball out of thin air, sending back Ollie Pope to the dressing room and the entire crowd to hysteria. The crowd was absolutely buzzed but they weren’t quite pumped up like the Indian team, who flocked to appreciate the flying effort from the wicketkeeper. Astonishing and scintillating. Rishabh Pant takes a screamer

IND vs ENG | Great to have spectators back; Rahane is one of our top players, states Rohit Sharma

At the end of an eventful day for Rohit Sharma, he stated that it was great to finally be playing at home in front of spectators, insisting that they would be treated to four more days of good cricket. He also insisted that Rahane is one of India’s top-players, putting down all criticisms of his.Rohit Sharma, after a poor first Test in Chennai, where he scored 6 and 12, scored a knock of ages, with a power-packed 161 against England in the ongoing second Test in Chennai. One of Rohit’s go-to-shots during his long stay at the crease was the sweep shot, something that he has specialised in his cricketing career. Alongside that, his partnership with Ajinkya Rahane lifted India out of troubles and put them in a state of dominance. In the post-day presser, Rohit stressed the impact of the crowd on the players, stating that it livened up the atmosphere. He also insisted that the first Test was a little low from an intensity point of view but reckoned that the crowd will get a good Test match here during the second Test. “It was great fun to have spectators back to the stadium. It livens up the atmosphere, the first game was a little low from an intensity point of view. It was nice to have the crowd back and I’m really happy that they have witnessed good cricket. I’m sure that they are going to enjoy the next four days as well,” Rohit said in the presser. The Indian batsman was also left surprised by the criticism surrounding Ajinkya Rahane, who got out for one and zero in the first Test. Rohit stated that Rahane will always continue to be one of India’s best players and has put his hands up time and again while adding that he advised the right-hander to sweep the spinners. The Mumbaikar also suggested that any target above 350 could well be enough on these raging turners. “Ajinkya is one of our top players, he has from time to time shown us his perfect innings. He has done it a lot in the past as well. When he came out to bat, it was crucial, we had lost three wickets as well. He put his hands up and showed his batsmanship in difficult situations. I have no idea why the conversation was going, his knock is crucial for us. On this wicket, 350 is a good score, we still have four wickets left. So we will hope that we can cross that target and keep playing. These wickets will start turning well from the second, third day,” he added.Rohit also talked about the sweep shot, which he insisted is one of the ‘safest’ option to frustrate the bowlers while also taking away LBW from the equation, alongside the catch. “Look I have seen Moeen Ali bowl a lot, he bowls really well in the rough. The sweep shot is something that can frustrate the bowlers. If you are trying to connect the ball, it is a safer option. Even if you top-edge, it will fall safely. It was a percentage shot as well and there were odd deliveries, where I wanted to use my feet and reach the ball perfectly. Pretty much that was the approach.”Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

IND vs ENG | Pant could change game in a session, didn’t want that pressure, reveals Joe Root

English skipper Joe Root was heavily criticized for not declaring England’s second innings and he has now revealed that Rishabh Pant could have impacted game and he didn’t want that pressure. He also added that India have some exceptional players and they will come back hard in the next Test. Though Rishabh Pant has had a short Test career thus far but his impact has been paramount. He was critical to India’s epic Gabba win and also threatened to run away with the game in the SCG Test against the Aussies when he had combined in a big stand with Cheteshwar Pujara with his counter-attacking 97. In the first innings of the Chennai Test too, he made an aggressive 91 coming in a pressure situation and helped India post 337 in response to England’s 578. Given the left-hander’s track record in the fourth innings, English skipper Joe Root didn’t want the pressure of containing runs and knew the Indian gloveman could change things in a session. “Rishabh Pant bats for one session and he can make things quite interesting. I did not want the pressure of having to contain and as well as take wickets. I wanted to make sure that the bowlers were concentrating on the ways of finding the wickets on that surface. We were always going to create ten chances, we just had to be disciplined and take the chances that came our way. We could have declared earlier, I am just glad how it has turned out,” Root said in a virtual presser, reported ANI. He also added that it was necessary for the Three Lions to completely take India out of the game as Chepauk had a fast outfield. “We could have declared earlier, for sure, we could have. I wanted to make sure that there were only two results possible in this game. I wanted to make sure that we turned up today with the ball still being hard. We wanted to give our bowlers an extra bit of time to be raring to go. We wanted to get to 400 and then we wanted to press the accelerator. Actually, it was going to be really important that we had runs on the board as it was a fast outfield.”The 38-year-old James Anderson was crucial to England’s win today as he took three wickets in quick time in the first session to jolt India’s batting and put England into a position of ascendancy. Root praised the fitness levels of an ageless Anderson. “The toss was going to be important. From that point, it was crucial that we made the most of batting first on that wicket. We played fantastic cricket, we were in control of the game and the guys were exceptional today in particular. It will give us confidence going into the series. I think Anderson seems to get better with time. Those fitness levels are right up there, it is probably the best he has ever been in his whole career,” said Root.Despite taking a 1-0 lead in the series, Joe Root is wary of India’s strong fightback and wants to keep improving going into the next Test that starts from February 13 at the same venue. “This is certainly a very good victory. But in the scheme of this series, we know it’s just a start. We know India is a very good team and they are a very proud nation, they have some exceptional players. They will come hard at us but to be sitting 1-0 up, it’s really good. Really proud of how we played this week, there are some areas we can improve on,” he added.Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

IND vs ENG | Rishabh Pant is amazing to watch as a neutral, insists Ian Bell

Ian Bell, ahead of the fifth day’s play, insisted that Rishabh Pant is amazing to watch as a neutral before crediting his clear game plan a reason behind his success. While he praised him for his calculative batting, he stated that if India gets a good foundation, Pant could be the difference-maker.Since Rishabh Pant has made his Indian debut, India have already become one of the feared chasing sides in the world, as seen in the series against Australia. Despite setting up mammoth targets both in Brisbane and Sydney, Australia were made to sweat to draw the Test in Sydney while conceding the Test in Brisbane, all the back of Rishabh Pant’s ultra-aggressive counter-attack. In just the one innings this series, the left-hander has already set the fear amidst the English bowlers – with Jack Leach bearing the brunt of his batting display. Former English batsman Ian Bell insisted that Rishabh is amazing to watch as a neutral. He also added that the left-arm spinner Leach would be unsure about what Pant would do, facing him. “As a neutral, Rishabh Pant is amazing to watch. That was just Test cricket. We saw Cheteshwar Pujara doing his own thing in his own way, and Rishabh Pant doing it in his way, which was great. Jack Leach would be sitting there not knowing what to do now when Pant comes in and whether we see Leach bowl to him a lot, I am not so sure in this series,” Bell said on ESPNCricinfo, reported HT.However, from an English standpoint, Bell stated that if India does get a foundation, via their top-order batsman – the left-handed batsman would be dangerous and could hurt the Three Lions. “One thing that worries me from England point of view is that if India get a foundation, and he can come in on the back of good run score, he could be dangerous. That is what worries me in this series. If India got a good foundation, Pant could really hurt England in the back of an innings.”Bell also expressed that Pant’s aggressive mindset wasn’t just reckless batting but it was the left-hander backing himself and taking on the right bowlers. “I think it is so important for a young player to understand how you are going to go and to have a clear mind. Pant showed an aggressive mindset, clear in his game plan, how he was going to take him down. It was not just reckless hitting, backing himself, picking the right bowlers. Yes, clearing boundary fielders but then rotating the strike along the way,” he added.Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .
