Five Points to Select the Perfect Rug

Carpets and rugs are an important and functional part of the interior design. They make your home more comfortable, warmer and cozier. Nothing compares to the soft, luxurious feeling of carpet under your feet. Beautiful carpets or modern rugs will give your home an elegant and fancy style. So choosing the right carpet is critical. When you go in the market to choose the carpet for your home, please pay attention to five points:

1. What size rug do you need

First you should decide if you want a room size carpet or several different small rugs to fill the space. Each rug adds something unique to the space. So you will be able to emphasize separate specialized areas in the same room. It may be seating area with sofa and a couple of chairs or conversation area around the coffee table. In any case area rug gives you more intimate feel and warmth.

If you want to place a large carpet in your living room, make sure that all of the furniture that you are using is completely on the carpet, not half on half off. The rug should be large enough to cover the entire area. In other case it is better not to put the furniture on the carpet at all. Instead, place the rug in the center and arrange the furniture around it.

2. Color of the rug

Color of the rug is powerful and important factor. The main rule is that darker color schemes impart a warm and cozy feel to the room while bold and bright colors make it playful. Notice also that light colors make your room seem larger and heavy geometric pattern decreases it size.

3. Rug Material

The appearance, feel, durability of a rug as well as care features depends on the rug material used in making it. Modern rugs are come in a wide variety of natural and synthetic fibres.

Natural materials include wool, cotton, sisal, jute, seagrass or bamboo. Natural fibers provide an attractive appearance, warmth and soft, low luster colors and long-term performance. Natural fibers require additional consideration before cleaning.

Man-made fibres commonly used for synthetic rugs are nylon, acrylic and polypropylene etc. One of the greatest advantages of nylon, polyester and acrylic rugs is the fiber being non-porous. This means that rugs are stain proof and resists soiling from chemicals. Man-made materials are highly resistant to mold, mildew and moths. At the same time rugs made of synthetic fibres are durable, soft and easy to maintain.

4. Pile length or height

Pile length varies from right flat pile to a long shag pile. Shaggy rug is perfect for bedroom or guest room. It makes a stylish addition to a modern living space. It will also please you with its luxuriously soft texture. For high traffic areas, children’s rooms, bathrooms it is better to use carpets with lower pile. This style of carpet is particularly hardwearing and easy to clean.

5. Shape of the rug

The shape of the rug plays a significant role in the rooms interior as well as affects the size of the rug. Common shapes for rugs are square, rectangle, oval and circle. You can also find rugs in the shape of flowers or cartoon characters which are usually placed in kid’s room.

If you need a rug to accentuate the furniture you should extend the furniture shape to the rug. Try a rectangle rug for a rectangle dining table or a round rug for a round coffee table. It is an easy and stylish way to brighten a plain room.

Of course there are no strict rules when it comes to decorating your home, but these simple points will help you to select the perfect rug for your room.
