Home decorating is not an easy task. With so many colors and choices around, it can be very scary to commit to any changes or purchases. Buying area rugs can also be daunting; especially when you are buying a large area rug such as the 9×12 rug. Choosing among the thousands of area rugs online and offline can be dizzying: which color, which pattern, which shape and material do you choose?
Where do you start if you want to be successful in decorating your home with 9×12 area rugs like a pro?
First, you need to decide on the color schemes. Your house is not made up of individual rooms; it is composed of related rooms. While you can decorate bedrooms in accordance to individual tastes of the occupant, you have to make sure that the entrance, living room, dining room, family room and kitchen have something in common to tie them in together. And the most common and easiest way to do that is through color.
This doesn’t mean to say that you will have one boring color for all areas of the house. You can choose different color schemes for every room but bearing in mind that there should be one similar color that will bring them together as related rooms under one roof.
You can used complementary colors that evoke excitement and activity in the most active rooms like kitchen and dining room; while maintain muted colors using the analogous color scheme in family room and bathroom.
Complementary colors are those that are opposite each other in the color wheel. You can have ferrous red walls and lime green upholstery; and darker moss green with some splashes of red for the area rug. The throw pillows can have a combination of several pieces in different hues of red and green such as burgundy, metallic maroon, pale green with streaks of silver. The curtains can also have the same hues with the area rug or the throw pillows.
This combination will have both the complementary color scheme and monochromatic scheme at work together. By choosing the right tone of red and green, the resulting color scheme will not look like it’s Christmas 365 days every year!
If you are given the opportunity to start from scratch, it is best to start with the living room, dining room and the entry way. After deciding the color schemes, you can choose one color from that scheme to be used in varying intensity in other parts of the house.
By simply changing the intensity, a seemingly warm color can be converted into a cool tone.
Before choosing the wall color, the best thing to do is to start with the furniture color and area rugs. It is so much easier to change wall colors and accent pieces. This is the reason why when choosing your furniture, you should consider that the chosen style, color and materials should go beyond being a fad and should stand the test of time.
